SunCoke Energy's plants cost less to build and to operate when compared with traditional
chemical by-product plants. And we can prove it. Our lower cost structure means
we can offer our steel-making customers excellent value at competitive prices.
- Construction: Our advanced ovens offer a simpler design that uses just 23 brick shapes in construction,
compared with over 1,000 for chemical by-product ovens, thereby reducing construction
time and costs.
- Coal: Our unique horizontal design allows the SunCoke Energy ovens to accept almost any type
of coking coal, including expanding coal. This coal blend flexibility yields the highest
quality coke at the lowest possible coke cost.
- Staffing: Our coke plants require substantially fewer staff
than required by competitors. For example, a typical SunCoke Energy plant in the United
States requires approximately
one employee for every 8,000 tons of cokemaking capacity, including hourly workers,
supervisors, management and administration for the coke plant, power plant and
coal handling facilities.
