Gateway Energy and Coke Company
  The Granite City, IL plant began construction in May 2008 and will produce 650,000 tons of blast furnace coke per year from 120 new heat recovery ovens. It will also produce approximately 500,000 pounds per hour of superheated steam that will be delivered to the adjacent US Steel Granite City Works where it will be used in a Cogeneration facility built by US Steel. Production start-up is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2009.



Middletown Coke Company
  The Middletown, OH plant will produce 550,000 tons of blast furnace coke per year from 100 new heat recovery ovens. The facility will deliver its coke output to the adjacent AK Steel Middletown facility via conveyor. It will also produce approximately 46 MW electrical power which will be utilized by AK Steel Corporation. Ground breaking is expected in the third quarter of 2008.

Future Prospects
  Given the rise in demand for steel and the related demand increases for coke, SunCoke Energy is currently discussing other opportunities for new cokemaking facilities with several domestic and international steel companies.
