Common Tunnel and Vent Stacks
Flue gas exits the sole flues via uptakes in the opposite wall from its point of entry. The uptakes deliver the gas into a duct, which connects all ovens in the battery. This duct is called the common tunnel. Draft on each oven is regulated by uptake dampers immediately upstream of the common tunnel. The common tunnel transports flue gas to waste heat steam generators or stacks that may vent to the atmosphere.
